Legacy Technology Cost Management

CHALLENGE

Too often, legacy applications don’t get much attention or support from the Legislature or other stakeholders. Many have been around for several decades and become more and more risky to operate.

SOLUTION

We worked directly with agency CIO to analyze cloud migration strategy to minimize application support costs. Inventoried legacy applications, contractual obligations, and vendor dependencies to create a plan for sunsetting applications as new systems could be procured and implemented. Considered options for downsizing mainframe environment, retire versus remediate applications, and refactoring/replatforming necessary applications to develop business case for moving forward.

RESULTS

The agency had a solid roadmap for application migration to the cloud, legacy application retirement, and application modernization.
